What to see in Baqueira
Ski resort of Baqueira Beret
It is one of the most important ski resorts in Spain.
Located in the Catalan Pyrenees, in the Vall d'Arán. The ski resort is divided into three interconnected areas: Baqueira (for the most experienced skiers), Beret (for beginners) and Bonaigua (plenty of out of ski slopes). The three areas summit 108 km of marked tracks. It has 71 slopes (5 green, 34 blue, 26 red and 6 black), 32 lifts and a circuit of 7 km cross-country skiing.
Sanctuary of Montgarri
In the northeastern limit of the Vall d'Aran is located the Sanctuary-Refuge of Montgarri.
To access to the sanctuary there is a hiking route, a fairly comfortable forest trail (about 12 km round trip). It leaves from the Plan de Beret, from one end of the car parks, and it is a very pleasant tour. In a natural environment of great beauty, the itinerary runs very close to the river Noguera Pallaresa, between forests of black pine and grass areas.
The Sanctuary is a building built in 1117, although what today is visited is completely renovated. The whole environment, crossed by the same Noguera Pallaresa, invites to rest and contemplation.
Valley of Arreu
The Arreu Valley is located in the Pallars Sobirá region, in the middle of the Pyrenees of Lleida. It is one of the last virgin valleys of the Pyrenees where human intervention is almost nil. It forms part of the natural space Alt Aneu, included in the Plan of Spaces of Natural Interest of Catalonia. A semi-vine valley leads to the Pla de Beret, covered with snow in the winter, from here you can reach Port de Salau, Bonabé Forest, Cireres ...
From Arreu a path takes us to the Vall del Rosari with lakes of glacial origin and Muntanyo d'Arreu at whose feet are the plains of Rialba.
Arties is the most important town of Naut Arán, except Salardú. Located at 1143 meters high, between the rivers Valarties and Garonne, Arties is an ideal place to get lost in the typical streets.
It is a very charming and chic village where the typical houses of wood, stone and slate are mixed with colorful houses in French style. It is surprising the great number of restaurants and shops, all of them of high standing.
You have to visit the historical city center with the church of Santa Maria, with Romanesque and Gothic styles, the palace house of Portolá and its tower of the XVI century and the house Paulet, of the XVI century. In the restaurants you can taste traditional dishes such as truhada, patarnes, Bagergue cheeses and the famous Aranese pot, which you can also taste at the hotel.
Vielha is a small town of 4000 inhabitants located to 974 meters height that is the capital of the Valley of Arán.
It is a modern city in which you will find any service you need. The city has an interesting cultural offer with visits such as San Miguel church, in the center of the village (with the medieval Christ of Mijaran), the Aranese Ethnological museum, the Porticado city hall, the palace of Co Rhodes, the Wool museum and the tower of the General Martinón of the XVII century.
